Forgetting Verses or Making Mistakes in My Prayer
Question:
What should I do if I forgot verses or made mistakes in my prayer?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, we praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.
To avoid mistakes and confusion, it is always better and safe to recite the verses you are sure about and you have memorized well. If your mistake is with the recitation of Fatihah, you have to repeat the raka`h (part of the prayer), since Prayer is not valid without reciting Surah Al-Fatihah (the Opening Chapter of the Qur’an).
Surahs other than Al-Fatihah are cosidered an act of sunnah and even if you make mistakes in them, your prayer is still valid. To get more information about such ruling, watch this short talk with Sheikh Waleed Bayouni.
