Welcome to a new episode in this fascinating series titled “Prayer: Key to Success,” in which Sheikh Mufti Menk continues his insightful discussion on the second pillar of Islam — prayer (Salah).
He begins this episode by shedding light on those who are granted the ability to remain steadfast in their prayers. Allah the Almighty says:
“Those who believe in the Hereafter believe in it, and they are maintaining their prayers.”
— (Al-An`am 6:92)
According to this verse, it is only those who truly believe in Allah, His Messenger, the Last Day, and His revealed scriptures who are able to consistently uphold their prayers.
Secondly, Sheikh Mufti highlights that when a disbeliever embraces Islam by declaring the testimony of faith and begins offering the obligatory prayers, he or she becomes part of the Muslim community. Allah says:
“But if they repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”
— (At-Tawbah 9:5)
Third, he explains that seeking sustenance and divine help should be done through patience and prayer. This path, while challenging, is made easy for those who possess true humility before Allah. The Qur’an states:
“And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah].”
— (Al-Baqarah 2:45)
Sheikh Mufti then emphasizes a beautiful Sunnah: offering nafl (voluntary) prayers at home. This was the consistent practice of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), teaching us to bring light and barakah into our homes through worship.
