Offering Tarawih in Congregation
Some people claim that performing Tarawih (Night Prayer in Ramadan) in congregation is bid`ah (innovation) as it was first offered during the era of `Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). However, this claim is refutable because it is authentically established that the Prophet (peace be upon him) was the first to perform Tarawih in congregation but he did not continue it out of fear that it will be made obligatory upon people.
When that fear was over, `Umar revived it and asked people to offer it in congregation, and thus fulfilling the desire of the Prophet.
