But in reality, it starts before that moment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"557\" data-end=\"594\">The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"596\" data-end=\"707\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"598\" data-end=\"707\"><strong data-start=\"598\" data-end=\"677\">&#8220;A person is considered in prayer as long as he is waiting for the prayer.&#8221;<\/strong><br data-start=\"677\" data-end=\"680\" \/><em data-start=\"682\" data-end=\"707\">(Al-Bukhari and Muslim)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"709\" data-end=\"978\">For men, this refers to one who prepares for and waits for prayer to begin at the mosque. For women who pray at home, it refers to performing <strong data-start=\"851\" data-end=\"860\">wudu\u2019<\/strong> (ablution), dressing appropriately, and preparing oneself spiritually and mentally as the time for prayer approaches.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"980\" data-end=\"983\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"985\" data-end=\"1030\"><strong data-start=\"989\" data-end=\"1030\">The Overlooked Sweetness of the Adhan<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1032\" data-end=\"1273\">An often-neglected aspect of the prayer is the <strong data-start=\"1079\" data-end=\"1088\">adhan<\/strong> (call to prayer). Have we ever paused to taste its sweetness? Whoever truly experiences the beauty of the adhan will likely find deeper <strong data-start=\"1225\" data-end=\"1236\">khushu`<\/strong> (devotion) during the prayer itself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1275\" data-end=\"1338\">Satan detests the prayer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1340\" data-end=\"1782\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1342\" data-end=\"1782\"><strong data-start=\"1342\" data-end=\"1763\">&#8220;When the adhan is pronounced, Satan takes to his heels and passes wind with noise during his flight in order not to hear it. When the adhan is completed, he comes back. When the iqamah is pronounced, he takes off again. Once it is done, he returns, whispering into the heart of the person (to distract him from his prayer), reminding him of things he had forgotten\u2014so much so that he forgets how much he has prayed.&#8221;<\/strong><br data-start=\"1763\" data-end=\"1766\" \/><em data-start=\"1768\" data-end=\"1782\">(Al-Bukhari)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1784\" data-end=\"1952\">From the moment the adhan begins, Satan\u2019s mission is to distract us, so we miss out on its tremendous blessings. Why? Because the adhan holds <strong data-start=\"1926\" data-end=\"1951\">great spiritual power<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"1954\" data-end=\"1957\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"1959\" data-end=\"1984\"><strong data-start=\"1963\" data-end=\"1984\">A Reward to Grasp<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1986\" data-end=\"2023\">The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2025\" data-end=\"2239\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2027\" data-end=\"2239\"><strong data-start=\"2027\" data-end=\"2211\">&#8220;The muezzin (caller to prayer) is forgiven as far as his voice reaches, and whoever hears him will affirm what he says. He will receive a reward equal to those who pray with him.&#8221;<\/strong><br data-start=\"2211\" data-end=\"2214\" \/><em data-start=\"2216\" data-end=\"2239\">(An-Nasa\u2019i and Ahmad)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2241\" data-end=\"2426\">If fifty people pray, the <strong data-start=\"2267\" data-end=\"2278\">muezzin<\/strong> gets the reward of fifty prayers. If a hundred pray, he receives the reward of a hundred. But what about the rest of us\u2014those who are not muezzins?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2428\" data-end=\"2539\">A man once asked the Prophet (peace be upon him):<br data-start=\"2477\" data-end=\"2480\" \/><em data-start=\"2480\" data-end=\"2525\">&#8220;Do the muezzins have more virtue than us?&#8221;<\/em><br data-start=\"2525\" data-end=\"2528\" \/>He replied:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"2541\" data-end=\"2634\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2543\" data-end=\"2634\"><strong data-start=\"2543\" data-end=\"2616\">&#8220;Say what they say, and when they finish, ask and it shall be given.&#8221;<\/strong><br data-start=\"2616\" data-end=\"2619\" \/><em data-start=\"2621\" data-end=\"2634\">(Abu Dawud)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2636\" data-end=\"2753\">So repeat the words of the adhan, and when it concludes, <strong data-start=\"2693\" data-end=\"2706\">ask Allah<\/strong>\u2014for it is a moment where du`a is not rejected.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"2755\" data-end=\"2758\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"2760\" data-end=\"2790\"><strong data-start=\"2764\" data-end=\"2790\">The Call That Elevates<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2792\" data-end=\"3064\">When the adhan begins with <em data-start=\"2819\" data-end=\"2835\">\u201cAllahu Akbar\u201d<\/em>, it reminds us that <strong data-start=\"2856\" data-end=\"2876\">Allah is greater<\/strong> than whatever we&#8217;re currently engaged in\u2014whether it\u2019s a TV show, a meal, or a conversation. You rise to pray because of <em data-start=\"2997\" data-end=\"3020\">\u201cLa ilaha illa Allah\u201d<\/em>\u2014your belief that there is no god but Allah.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3066\" data-end=\"3201\">If, in that moment, what you&#8217;re doing feels more important than responding to the adhan, you must reflect on what you truly prioritize.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3203\" data-end=\"3401\">During the adhan, we repeat everything the muezzin says, <strong data-start=\"3260\" data-end=\"3270\">except<\/strong> when he says <em data-start=\"3284\" data-end=\"3352\">\u201cHayya <code data-start=\"3292\" data-end=\"3338\">ala as-salah\u201d* (Come to prayer) and *\u201cHayya <\/code>ala al-falah\u201d<\/em> (Come to success). At these moments, we respond:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3403\" data-end=\"3503\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3405\" data-end=\"3503\"><strong data-start=\"3405\" data-end=\"3445\">\u201cLa hawla wa la quwwata illa billah\u201d<\/strong><br data-start=\"3445\" data-end=\"3448\" \/><em data-start=\"3450\" data-end=\"3503\">There is no power or strength except through Allah.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3505\" data-end=\"3628\">Why do we say that? Because we acknowledge that we cannot attain <strong data-start=\"3570\" data-end=\"3606\">true success or sincere devotion<\/strong> without Allah&#8217;s help.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"3630\" data-end=\"3633\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"3635\" data-end=\"3680\"><strong data-start=\"3639\" data-end=\"3680\">A Higher Calling: Meeting the Beloved<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3682\" data-end=\"3874\">The <strong data-start=\"3686\" data-end=\"3695\">adhan<\/strong> is not just a call to pray\u2014it is a <strong data-start=\"3731\" data-end=\"3763\">summons to meet your Beloved<\/strong>. Just like the excitement we feel before meeting someone dear to us, the adhan stirs longing and anticipation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3876\" data-end=\"3973\">Lady `A\u2019ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"3975\" data-end=\"4055\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3977\" data-end=\"4055\"><strong data-start=\"3977\" data-end=\"4036\">&#8220;Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him.&#8221;<\/strong><br data-start=\"4036\" data-end=\"4039\" \/><em data-start=\"4041\" data-end=\"4055\">(Al-Bukhari)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4057\" data-end=\"4187\">The adhan is telling us: <strong data-start=\"4082\" data-end=\"4118\">\u201cNow is the time to meet Allah.\u201d<\/strong> Those who truly love Allah will not delay\u2014they will eagerly respond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4189\" data-end=\"4254\">Look at <strong data-start=\"4197\" data-end=\"4225\">Musa (peace be upon him)<\/strong> as Allah says in the Qur\u2019an:<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"4256\" data-end=\"4431\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4258\" data-end=\"4431\"><em data-start=\"4258\" data-end=\"4312\">\u201cAnd what made you hasten from your people, O Musa?\u201d<\/em><br data-start=\"4312\" data-end=\"4315\" \/><em data-start=\"4317\" data-end=\"4408\">He said, \u201cThey are close behind me, and I hastened to You, my Lord, that You be pleased.\u201d<\/em><br data-start=\"4408\" data-end=\"4411\" \/><em data-start=\"4413\" data-end=\"4431\">(Ta-Ha 20:83-84)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4433\" data-end=\"4546\">He rushed to meet Allah\u2014not out of fear, but <strong data-start=\"4478\" data-end=\"4505\">out of love and longing<\/strong>. This is the spirit we should cultivate.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"\" data-start=\"4548\" data-end=\"4551\" \/>\n<h3 class=\"\" data-start=\"4553\" data-end=\"4590\"><strong data-start=\"4557\" data-end=\"4590\">Conclusion: Savoring the Call<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4592\" data-end=\"4782\">The adhan is a reminder that we are about to <strong data-start=\"4637\" data-end=\"4662\">stand before our Lord<\/strong>.
