So, if I know that I broke wind, could I still continue my prayer because I did not either hear sound or find a smell?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080\"><strong>Answer:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: \u201cIf any one of you has pain in his abdomen, but is doubtful whether or not anything has issued from him, be should not leave the mosque unless he hears a sound or perceives a smell.\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-faith.com\/featured\/imam-muslim-leading-scholar-hadith\/\">Muslim<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>`Abbad ibn Tamim said: My uncle asked Allah&#8217;s Messenger (peace be upon him) about a person who imagined to have passed wind during the prayer. The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: &#8220;He should not leave his prayers unless he hears sound or smells something.&#8221; (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-faith.com\/islamic-history\/albukhari-the-imam-of-hadith-and-sunnah\/\">Al-Bukhari<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>First of all, the Prophet (peace be upon him) directed us to relieve ourselves before offering prayer. <em>Wudu\u2019<\/em> (ablution) cannot be invalidated by doubt, rather a person must be certain that he\/she has broken it. In case he\/she is certain that he has broken his ablution, then he should stop praying and perform a new ablution.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to this question, Dr. Muhammad Salah states that a person must be in a state of purification while offering prayer.
