{"id":8146,"date":"2025-11-27T13:38:03","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T13:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imuslim.us\/?p=8146"},"modified":"2025-11-27T13:38:03","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T13:38:03","slug":"can-i-say-bismillah-in-bathroom-for-ablution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/imuslim.us\/?p=8146","title":{"rendered":"Can I Say Bismillah in Bathroom for Ablution?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><strong>Saying Bismillah Before <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prayerinislam.com\/guide-to-prayer\/step-step-guide-prayer-2\/\">Ablution<\/a>:<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">There are two views regarding the ruling of saying <em>bismillah<\/em> before<em> wudu&#8217;<\/em> (ablution):<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080\">First:<\/span><\/strong> Some scholars see that it is obligatory to mention the Name of Allah before making ablution based on the following hadith:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: <span style=\"color: #008000\">&#8220;The prayer of a person who does not perform ablution is not valid, and the ablution of a person who does not mention the name of Allah (in the beginning) is not valid&#8221;.<\/span> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-faith.com\/featured\/abu-dawud-the-faqih-and-scholar-of-hadith\/\">Abu Dawud<\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"color: #800080\"><strong>Second:<\/strong><\/span> The majority of scholars are of the view that it is highly recommended not obligatory to mention the Name of Allah before ablution. Almighty Allah says:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\"><span style=\"color: #008000\"><strong>&#8220;O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash your feet to the ankles.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.learning-quran.com\/quran-translations\/en-translation\/recitation-of-surat-al-maidah-3\/\">Al-Ma&#8217;idah<\/a> 5:6)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">The verse does not mention that it is required to say <em>bismillah<\/em> before making ablution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif\">It is always great to say <em>bismillah<\/em> before beginning anything. With regards to <em>wudu&#8217;<\/em> (ablution), are we allowed to verbally say <em>bismillah<\/em> when there&#8217;s a toilet attached?
