{"id":7555,"date":"2025-11-20T09:40:04","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T09:40:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imuslim.us\/?p=7555"},"modified":"2025-11-20T09:40:04","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T09:40:04","slug":"reciting-surat-al-fatihah-prayer-must","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/imuslim.us\/?p=7555","title":{"rendered":"Reciting Surat Al-Fatihah in Prayer: A Must?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Reciting Surat Al-Fatihah in Prayer<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080\"><strong>Question:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>If I am <em>a muqtadi<\/em> (person following the imam in prayer) behind an imam in the silent prayers (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prayerinislam.com\/guide-to-prayer\/obligatory-prayers-guide-to-prayer\/zhuhr-prayer\/\">Zhuhr<\/a> and `<a href=\"http:\/\/www.prayerinislam.com\/guide-to-prayer\/asr-the-middle-prayer\/\">Asr<\/a><\/em>) and I forget to recite Surat Al-Fatihah (the Opening Surah), what is the ruling of such prayer?<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080\">Answer:<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000\">`Ubadah ibn As-Samit narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, &#8220;Whoever does not recite Al-Fatihah in his prayer, his prayer is invalid.&#8221;<\/span> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-faith.com\/islamic-history\/albukhari-the-imam-of-hadith-and-sunnah\/\">Al-Bukhari<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Based on this hadith, it is clear that reciting Al-Fatihah is one of the essential parts of the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.prayerinislam.com\/guide-to-prayer\/\"> prayer<\/a>, and is to be recited in each <em>rak`ah<\/em> both by the imam and the followers.<\/p>\n<p>The scholars have two opinions regarding such ruling:<\/p>\n<p>1- Most scholars are of the view that the imam or the followers must recite Surat Al-Fatihah on their own particularly during the <em>rak`ahs<\/em> in which the imam recites silently or during the whole silent prayers such as Zhuhr (Noon Prayer) and `Asr (Afternoon Prayer).<\/p>\n<p>2- Imam Abu Hanifah sees that the follower does not have to recite Surat Al-Fatihah during the congregational prayers because the imam recites on his behalf.<\/p>\n<p>To get more information about the rulings of reciting Surat Al-Fatihah in prayer, you can watch this short video with Dr. Muhammad Salah.<br \/>\n<span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"width: 0px;overflow: hidden;line-height: 0\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><br \/>\n____________________________<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Huda Youtube Channel. \u00a0<\/em><a href='https:\/\/prayerinislam.com\/reciting-surat-al-fatihah-prayer-must\/' target='_blank'>Soucre Link<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the evidence of reciting Surat Al-Fatihah during the silent prayers?
