How to offer the Witr<\/em><\/a> prayer? How to perform Qunoot<\/em> (supplication recited in Witr prayer)?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In the name of\u00a0Allah<\/a>, we praise Him, seek His help and ask for His forgiveness. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Witr prayer is the last prayer of the night. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “The Witr prayer is offered in units of two raka`as<\/em>. If you fear that dawn is near, conclude with a single rak`ah<\/em> so the night prayer will be of an odd number.” (Al-Bukhari)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Time of Witr<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

It starts after `Isha\u2019<\/em> (Night Prayer), even if it is joined to Maghrib<\/em> at the time of Maghrib<\/em>, and lasts until dawn begins, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Allah has prescribed for you a prayer (by which He may increase your reward), which is Witr<\/em>; Allah has enjoined it for you during the time between `Isha\u2019<\/em> prayer until dawn begins.\u201d (Authenticated by Al-Albani)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The number of rak`ahs<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The minimum number of rak`ahs<\/em> for Witr<\/em> is one rak`ah<\/em>, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Witr<\/em> is one rak`ah<\/em> at the end of the night.” (Muslim). <\/span><\/p>\n

In another hadith, he (peace be upon him) said: “The night prayers are two (rak`ahs<\/em>) by two, but if one of you fears that dawn is about to break, let him pray one rak`ah<\/em> to make what he has prayed odd-numbered.” (Agreed Upon) If a person limits himself to praying one rak`ah<\/em>, then he has performed the Sunnah. But Witr<\/em> may also be three or five or seven or nine.<\/span><\/p>\n
