Is it before or after offering the <em>ruku`<\/em> (bowing)?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Answer:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Qunut<\/em> literally means <em>du`aa\u2019<\/em> (supplication).<\/p>\n<p>In the Shari`ah, it refers to the supplication made in the last <em>rak`ah<\/em> (unit of prayer) of the <em>Witr<\/em> Prayer whether before or after offering the bowing.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Hasan ibn `Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught me some words that I say during the <em>witr<\/em>. (The version of Ibn Jawwas has: I say them in the supplication of the <em>witr<\/em>.) They were: &#8220;O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, grant me security among those You havet granted security, take me into Your charge among those You have taken into Your charge, bless me in what You have given, guard me from the evil of what You have decreed, for You do decree, and nothing is decreed for You. He whom You befriends is not humbled.
