Prayer: Life’s Forgotten Purpose<\/p><\/div>\n

The Journey That Changed Everything: A Reminder About Salah<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Throughout human history, mankind has taken many journeys\u2014across deserts, over oceans, into space. But there is one journey<\/strong> unlike any other. A journey no man had ever taken before\u2014and no man will ever take again.<\/p>\n

It was a journey beyond the earth, beyond the skies, beyond even the reach of the mighty angel Jibreel. It was a journey to the Divine Presence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It was al-Israa’ wal-Mi’raaj<\/strong>\u2014the miraculous night journey and ascension of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). On this night, the Prophet was taken to the seventh heaven<\/strong>, a realm so sacred that even Jibreel, who delivered revelation for decades, had to stop and say, \u201cI cannot go beyond this point. If I did, I would burn.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

But the Prophet (\ufdfa) was invited to proceed. Why? Because there was one commandment<\/strong> so important, so central to the faith, that Allah did not send it down<\/em>\u2014He called His Messenger up<\/em>.<\/p>\n

That command was \u1e62al\u0101h (prayer)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

Fifty… Then Five<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Initially, the command was to pray fifty times a day<\/strong>. But the Prophet, by Allah\u2019s mercy, asked for ease on behalf of his people. So it was reduced\u2014first to forty-five, then to forty, and so on\u2014until finally it was reduced to just five daily prayers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

And yet… the reward remained as if we still prayed fifty.<\/p>\n

Scholars have reflected deeply on this: Why begin with fifty? Why not just command five? The answer lies in the lesson: Prayer was meant to define our day, not fill its empty corners<\/strong>. The original fifty was a reminder that worship was meant to be central\u2014not peripheral\u2014to our lives.<\/p>\n

\n

“Imagine actually praying fifty times a day. Could we do anything else? No\u2014and that\u2019s the point.”<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

What Went Wrong?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

But today, it\u2019s often the opposite. Instead of building our lives around Prayer, we try to fit Prayer into our lives\u2014if there\u2019s time. It\u2019s what we do after<\/strong> the meeting, after the sale, after the game, after the nap.<\/p>\n

For many, even that doesn’t happen.<\/p>\n

And this is not a small matter. Reflect on this shocking reality:<\/p>\n

\n

No scholar ever said that drinking alcohol or even committing murder makes a person a disbeliever.<\/strong>
But about abandoning Prayer? Some scholars said it can take a person out of Islam entirely.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This is based on the Prophet\u2019s (\ufdfa) own words:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThe covenant between us and them is prayer. Whoever abandons it has disbelieved.\u201d<\/em>
(Ahmad)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Imagine: the very thing that Satan refused to do\u2014one prostration<\/strong>\u2014is what we refuse to do five times a day<\/strong>. What excuse will we have?<\/p>\n

\n

First to Be Judged<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On the Day of Judgment<\/strong>, the first deed we will be judged for is Prayer<\/strong>. If it is in order, everything else follows. If it\u2019s flawed, everything else is at risk.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThe first thing which will be judged among a man\u2019s deeds on the Day of Resurrection is the Prayer\u2026\u201d<\/em>
(At-Tirmidhi)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Qur\u2019an tells us that when people are thrown into Hellfire, the first question they\u2019ll be asked is:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat led you into Hellfire?\u201d<\/em>
They will say: \u2018We were not of those who prayed.\u2019<\/em>
(Al-Muddaththir 74:42\u201343)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\n

We Never Say We Don\u2019t Have Time to Use the Bathroom<\/strong><\/h2>\n

If someone said they can\u2019t pray because they\u2019re at work<\/strong>, in school<\/strong>, or shopping<\/strong>\u2014we nod in understanding. But no one says, \u201cI was too busy to go to the bathroom.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

If you have to go, you go. It\u2019s not optional.<\/p>\n

You could be in the middle of the most important exam, a job interview, or asleep in the middle of the night\u2014if nature calls, you respond. Why? Because the consequences of ignoring it are immediate<\/strong> and unpleasant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

But what about the soul?<\/p>\n

Why do we treat the body as essential and the soul as optional\u2014when the soul is what lives forever?<\/p>\n

We tend to the temporary<\/strong>, while starving the eternal<\/strong>. We\u2019re meticulous about feeding our bodies but casual about feeding our souls.<\/p>\n

\n

The Truth: Salah Is Life<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Prayer is not a chore. It’s not a ritual to “get over with.” It is the oxygen of the soul<\/strong>, the connection to the Divine<\/strong>, the greatest honor of our existence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cThe delight of my eyes was made in prayer.\u201d<\/em>
(Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It was the only<\/strong> command Allah gave directly, without any intermediary. It was the first<\/strong> deed we will be judged for. It is the last<\/strong> thread of faith that will be lost before the end of time.<\/p>\n

So ask yourself:<\/p>\n
