{"id":13021,"date":"2026-02-08T23:37:15","date_gmt":"2026-02-08T23:37:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imuslim.us\/?p=13021"},"modified":"2026-02-08T23:37:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-08T23:37:15","slug":"distractions-a-lesson-from-surat-at-takathur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/imuslim.us\/?p=13021","title":{"rendered":"Distractions: A Lesson from Surat At-Takathur"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this short talk, Sheikh Nouman reflects on Surat <a title=\"Recitation of Surat At-Takathur\" href=\"http:\/\/www.learning-quran.com\/quran-translations\/en-translation\/al-ajmi-al-ghamidi-and-al-lahuni\/recitation-surat-at-takathur-2\/\">At-Takathur<\/a> (the 102<sup>nd<\/sup> Chapter of the Qur\u2019an which was revealed in <em>Makkah<\/em> and it talks about the love of this world and not thinking of the Hereafter) to explain that the wealth could be a great source of evil.<\/p>\n<p>In the beginning, Sheikh Nouman recites the whole Surah with a beautiful recitation and then begins to explain the meanings of words. The word <em>\u2018Lahw\u2019<\/em> which literally means \u2018entertainment\u2019 and it could be understood as \u201csomething that keeps one busy and takes him away from doing his duties\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Then he clarifies the literal meaning of the word \u2018<em>ilha\u2019<\/em> which means \u2018to be distracted from something more important than another\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Then, Sheikh Nouman narrates the incident that happened at the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) with his companions that made him tell Abu Bakr and `Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) \u201cthis is <em>na`eem<\/em> that you will be asked about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After that, he shows the reality of this world and its pleasures which take one from thinking about the Hereafter and this <em>dunya<\/em> is just a test for the wealthy and the poor.
