Purification of the soul is something related to the heart. Purity of the heart draws one closer to Almighty Allah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How can one purify his\/her soul? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One cannot truly purify the soul unless he\/she holds the correct beliefs about the creator and soul. One should practice devotional acts of obedience and avoid prohibitions. One also should seek the religious knowledge at the hands of qualified scholars who are also well versed with the diseases of the heart and their cures according to the way of the prophets.\u00a0 Finally, one should keep good company and be careful in selecting friends.<\/p>\n<p>Here, Sheikh Nouman Khan reflects on the following verse from Surat Ash-Shams (The Sun) to give us some advice regarding the purification of the soul:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;padding-right: 30px\"><strong>He has succeeded who purifies it (<em>nafs<\/em>). <\/strong>(<a title=\"Recitation of Surat Ash-Shams\" href=\"http:\/\/www.learning-quran.com\/quran-translations\/en-translation\/al-ajmi-al-ghamidi-and-al-lahuni\/recitation-surat-ash-shams-3\/\">Ash-Shams<\/a> 91:9)<\/p>\n<p>Sheikh Nouman begins his talk by explaining the meanings of the Arabic words.
