It is, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: \u201cThe greatest day in the sight of Allah, may He be blessed and exalted, the Day of Sacrifice . . .\u201d (Abu Dawud)<\/p>\n<p>It is also the greatest day of Hajj, as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-faith.com\/category\/prophet-muhammad\/prophet-biography\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Prophet (peace be upon him) <\/a>told us.<\/p>\n<p>The reason why it is described as the greatest day of the year is that it combines so many acts of worship which are not combined on any other day, such as the <em>`Eid<\/em> prayer, offering the sacrifice, reciting <em>Takbir<\/em> (glorifying Allah), and widespread remembrance of Allah.<sup>[1]<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The recommended acts of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sunnah.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sunnah<\/a> on the day of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-faith.com\/acts-of-worship\/prayer\/eid-alfitr-etiquettes-prayer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eid <\/a>are as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600\">1 \u2013 Taking a Bath before Going out to the Prayer<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Al- Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the Muslims were unanimously agreed that it is recommendable to take a bath for the Eid prayer.<\/p>\n<p>The reason why it is desirable is the same reason as that for taking a bath before Jumu`ah and other public gatherings. Rather, on <em>`Eid<\/em> the reason is even stronger.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>2 \u2013 Eating after the Prayer on<em> Eid al-Adha<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>On Eid al-Adha it is recommended not to eat anything until one comes back from the prayer, so he should eat from the <em>udhiyah<\/em> (sacrifice) if he has offered a sacrifice. If he is not going to offer a sacrifice, there is nothing wrong with eating before the prayer.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>3 \u2013 <em>Takbir<\/em> on the Day of <em>Eid<\/em> <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is one of the greatest Sunnahs on the day of <em>Eid<\/em> because Allah says:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;padding-right: 30px\"><strong>(He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allah [i.e. to say <em>Takbir<\/em> (Allahu Akbar: Allah is the Most Great)] for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him\u201d<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.learning-quran.com\/quran-translations\/en-translation\/recitation-surat-al-baqarah\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Al-Baqarah<\/a> 2:185)<\/p>\n<p>Al-Daraqutni and others narrated that on the morning of <em>`Eid<\/em> <em>al-Fitr<\/em> and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.new-muslims.info\/featured\/eid-al-adha-a-model-for-sharing-and-caring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eid<\/a><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.new-muslims.info\/featured\/eid-al-adha-a-model-for-sharing-and-caring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <em>al-Adha<\/em><\/a>, Ibn Umar would strive hard in reciting <em>Takbir<\/em> until he came to the prayer place, then he would recite <em>Takbir<\/em> until the imam came out.<\/p>\n<p>Saying <em>Takbir<\/em> when coming out of one&#8217;s house to the prayer place and until the imam came out was something that was well known among the Salaf (early generations). Nafi ibn Jubayr used to recite <em>Takbir<\/em> and was astonished that the people did not do so, and he said, \u201cWhy do you not recite <em>Takbir<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) used to say, \u201cThe people used to recite <em>Takbir<\/em> from the time they came out of their houses until the imam came in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The time for <em>Takbir<\/em> on <em>`<a href=\"http:\/\/www.new-muslims.info\/featured\/eid-al-adha-a-model-for-sharing-and-caring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eid<\/a><\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.new-muslims.info\/featured\/eid-al-adha-a-model-for-sharing-and-caring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <em>al-Adha<\/em><\/a> begins on the first day of Dhul-Hijjah and lasts until sunset on the last of the days of <em>Tashriq<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600\">4 \u2013 Offering Congratulations <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The etiquette of <em>Eid<\/em> also includes the congratulations and good wishes exchanged by people, no matter what the wording, such as saying to one another \u201c<em>Taqabbala Allah minna wa minkum<\/em>\u201d (May Allah accept (good deeds) from us and from you\u201d or \u201c<em>Eid mubarak<\/em>\u201d and other permissible expressions of congratulations.<\/p>\n<p>It was narrated that Jubayr ibn Nufayr said: When the companions of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-faith.com\/category\/prophet-muhammad\/prophet-biography\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prophet <\/a>(peace be upon him) met one another on the day of <em>Eid<\/em>, they would say to one another, \u201cMay Allah accept (good deeds) from us and from you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Undoubtedly these congratulations are among the noble characteristics among the Muslims.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>5 \u2013 Adorning Oneself on the Occasion of <em>Eid<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>It was narrated that Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) had a cloak which he would wear on the two <em>`Eid<\/em>s and on Fridays. (Ibn Khuzaymah)<\/p>\n<p>So a man should wear the best clothes that he has when going out for <em>`Eid<\/em>. With regard to women, they should avoid adorning themselves when they go out for <em>`Eid<\/em>, because they are forbidden to show off their adornments to non-<em>Mahram<\/em> men.
