Making Duaa in One’s Own Language in Sujud<\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Question:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Is it allowed to make duaa<\/em> (supplication) in my own language during sujud<\/em> (prostration) of prayer?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Almighty Allah says:<\/span><\/p>\n

And your Lord says, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you.” Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.<\/strong> <\/span>(Ghafir<\/a> 40:60)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Abu Huraira narrated that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said that Allah thus stated: “I am to my servant as he thinks of Me and with him as he calls Me.” (Muslim<\/a>)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An-Nu`man ibn Bashir narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Indeed, supplication is worship.” (At-Tirmidhi)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Abu Huraira reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “The nearest a servant comes to his Lord is when he is prostrating himself, so make supplication (in this state).” (Muslim)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Glorify your Lord in ruku`<\/em> (bowing posture) and exert yourself in supplication in prostration. Thus your supplications are liable to be accepted.” (Muslim)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is recommended for every one to make supplication while offering sujud in prayer. If he\/she does not know how to make supplication in Arabic, then it is permissible to make supplication in their own language. There is a comprehensive supplication mentioned in the Qur’an which is preferred to be invoked:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.<\/strong>” (Al-Baqarah 2:201)\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
